I would think that Bruce wouldn't back a warranty on something that wasn't sold from a physical distributor. I definitely would not glue a Bruce solid. I did see a 3/4" sold locking oak supposedly doesn't need an underlayment and can go over concrete. Blew my mind.

I remember that one. ha ha I think the guy who called was lying to tell you the truth. Would the Bruce tech dept really say that was feasible? I don't think so and I certainly would not hope so.

Armstrong did a study on a competitors work? Oh, I am not questioning what they found from my professional experience, just unusual Armstrong would make public comments about a competitor.

Well, the "original" UNBELIEVABLE!, OK, THE SPRING CLASS AT THE NWFA IS GOING TO BE CLOSED SATURDAY, MAY 19, AT MIDNIGHT. I have to send the manuals to the printer, and frankly, we are a little over booked.
We will start accepting more, yes more, students for the class in August, this Monday, May 21st. The Concrete / Wood Class, two for less than the price of one, will be done at 20% over cost.
The Guild, is now, officially, a non-profit mutual benefit educational guild. So, this Monday, the guys will get together, decide on a tuition fee, then, anything collected 20% over cost, will be refunded to the students when they arrive.
That means, if 30 sign up, there will be a sizable refund to those who attend.

Floor Covering News April/May 2012 Page 16 in column by Warren Tyler bottom of first column "Armstrong surveyed Lumber Liquidators' signature Bellawood line and found up to 50% of every box was unusable. Most of my inspections regarding 3/4" Bella wood found Overwood warpage and much more. Thought I would pass along for all of our Lumber Liquidators fans.

Poly after paste wax

Apply poly, wait 2 months, when it starts to peel call a pro to sand and refinish or best and only option if you want poly is to sand and refinish. You could also clean and rewax the floor. That saves money but will have repeat the work again in a few months when the wax gets dirty around the edges.

I got a call from some guy who bought some Bruce 3/4 solid Oak prefinished today. He said he got it for a buck 69 a sqft from some company that was going out of bizness online. He said he called the Bruce tech guy, said it was OK to glue cork to gypcrete and glue the solid 3/4 to it, yea it is in a condo upstairs.
I told him he is crazy and so is the Bruce tech guy. This is one solid I would not try although I will do solid gluedown in certain ceicumstances. Was I off base with this or would you try it?

CYA for Inspections
 Joe Clarke Posts: 19

I'm not sure what some of the posts have to do with advise to installers on CYA, but several comments have caught my attention. First, let me state that I am an independent inspector. Yes, someone always pays my fee but I gather the data-perform the analysis-and write the report. The data is what it is. My integrity is not for sale, and I am offended by the suggestion that inspections have to be biased toward the purchaser. Second, a through inspection can easily determine if proper expansion space was left during installation.Third, Mr.Ray,with all due respect, I do destructive testing during many of my inspections. I can do anything the property owner permits me to do to the property. I am careful not to leave a safety hazard, however. I do agree with Grooving that the best CYA is to properly do the job or let someone else do it.

Poly after paste wax

Kim, There is NO EASY way!! The floor must be sanded to bare wood and sealed and finished from scratch. Bonding poly to a waxed floor is never going to work in my opinion. I have direct experience in my own home trial..Haha.. it didn't work!! I knew it wouldn't but did a test anyways just to prove myself wrong!

Ray, I know what your talking about, I have taught classes on inspections, the method about expansion doesn't always run true, for instance, the floor could of been layed, base set down on floor, then quarter round installed, you would find that there is not enough expansion that way, but actually there would be still one inch of expansion. Lets discuss checking for uneven sufloor when a floating floor is installed, now that will open up a can of worms, lol, but you did bring up a good point, never too late to attend training class's.Ray Darrah wrote:
I know this will cause an argument, but here goes: There is no need to lift the floor or base to determine excessive deflection or lack of expansion space if proper investigative techniques are used. Inspectors cannot perform destructive testing so we do know how to make these determinations without lifting the floor and removing the base. Attend an investigative procedure course to learn how to perform these indicative field tests.

Advice for a chattering Clarke Floorcrafter
 TDMAC Posts: 531

The build up of dust causing imbalance seems very plausible. I have never experienced that , even with the old American Lincoln. My Hummels are not a problem except with the wheels, getting dirty. Also running over the dust clumps during first cut can cause waves. Check the vacuum pick up!
